E Chapin Davis Jr.

July 8, 1929 — September 28, 2017

E. Chapin Davis aka "Buddy", "Rusty" was born in Massachusetts on July 8, 1929. Chapin was a true academic having earned degrees in counseling and psychology from Boston University, Cornell University and Harvard University. As a commissioned ROTC officer, Chapin served in the Air Force at both Edwards Air Force Base and at Goosebay Air Force Base in Labrador during the Korean War. At Edwards, Chapin served on the ground crew of Chuck Yeager, the famous Air Force test pilot. During the Korean War, Chapin's job at Goosebay Labrador Air Force Base was to keep our planes warm, guard the coast's radar stations, and maintain our supply-chain for Air Force supplies along the coast. It was no surprise to learn that Chapin was befriended and adopted by Labrador's Nunatsiavut Inuit. People who have occupied the circumpolar regions of the world for longer than 5,000 years; the Inuit are descendants of the prehistoric Thule, people who were hunters that were drawn to Labrador due to its large amounts of whales and wildlife. The Inuit are considered a maritime people, as are very connected to the environment.
Chapin dedicated his life and work to promote and educate for our culture, our health and well-being, and our Constitutional, democratic, and human rights. One of Chapin's life serving occupations was that of being a 20+ year high school counselor in Albertine Massachusetts. Living the life of a true Renaissance man, Chapin embraced and sang opera, was a lover of the performing arts, was a gardener, a thrift store and garage sale stopper, and foster father-figure to many. Chapin gave us hope, happiness, love, friendship, patience and kindness,.. it's our job now to "pay it forward".
Chapin said recently that the most important thing that he wanted people to read about when they read his obituary column was that he wanted people to never to underestimate the power of true and lasting friendships. He wanted people to annually plant a tree on their property with members of their family.. this for serving as a long lasting keep sake and for the bees and the birds and the chipmunks and squirrels. Chapin asked for people wishing to make a donation in celebration of his life, for them to make one, care of the nurses and aides station at Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He said that it was at ECH where true angels live and work. Community Relations Department - Donation in memory of E Chapin Davis
