Cornelius (Neil) Hendrickson died June 6, 2015, in Keene Valley, New York, at the age of 88. He was born in Terrytown, New York, on December 21, 1926, the son of John Wilson and Helen (Minnerly) Hendrickson.
Cornelius graduated from Freehold High School, New Jersey, in 1944. He was a World War II veteran, and served on Landing Ship Tank #30 and Destroyer Escort #577 A. J. Luke. He was a supervisor for New Jersey Bell telephone Company (now Verizon), and retired with 38 years of service in 1985. Cornelius was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America for 19 years. He served as scoutmaster of Troop 12 in Edison, New Jersey, for 17 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 1312 Keene, New York. He was also a member of the United States Landing Ship Tank Association, the United States Navy Sampson WWII Vets, and the Telephone Pioneers.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Ann (Harrison) Hendrickson, his first wife Betty (Day) Hendrickson and five sons: Neil, Keith and Lawrence, of New Jersey, Brian, of Florida, and Craig, of Arizona; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, a brother, John Wilson, of Freehold, New Jersey, two sisters, Althea Marie Rose, of Freehold, and Jeanne Marline Kuniegel, of Pennsylvania, as well as five daughters-in-law.
he was predeceased by his second wife Mary (Manning) Roy Hendrickson of Keene Valley, a sister, Ruth Stankiewicz, and her husband, Stanley Stankiewicz, of Marlboro, New Jersey.
An American Legion graveside funeral for Cornelius Hendrickson will be held in August; the date and time are still to be determined.
Contributions in memory of Neil could be made to the Keene Veterans Memorial in care of Keene Community Trust, PO Box 498, Keene Valley, NY 12943, or to High Peaks Hospice, PO Box 192, Port Henry, NY 12974.
