Dariene Wynne Hicks

d. September 5, 2014

Dariene Wynne Hicks, 72, passed away on September 5, 2014 after battling numerous mental and physical illnesses. As a young child, all she ever wanted to be was a nurse and care for others. After graduating from high school in Livingston NJ, she made that dream come true. She worked as a Critical Care Registered Nurse in Florida and was known for her passion to her patients, her sharp intellect and friendless to all.
Eventually she moved to Saranac Lake NY where she fought, with the help of others, to maintain a dignified, independent life as her illnesses became more serious. Her family owes a debt of gratitude to many, including Anne Munn, Carrie Bradley, Lorraine Bowman, the staff at the Post Office Pharmacy, special friends Roland and Joan, folks at Mountain Crest and North Star Mental Health. She last lived at Keene Valley Neighborhood House (KVNH), where Rich Rothsein and his wonderful staff gave her the same care that she had given to so many others. Her family thanks the staff at Elizabethtown Hospital for making her last few days full of dignity.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Harold Wynne. She is survived by her sister Sandy Wynne and her husband Sean McKenzie, her niece and nephew Linae and Stephen Laible, and her great niece, Savanna Rose Laible.
There is no service or visiting hours. To honor Dariene’s life, please consider a donation to KVNH or an animal shelter.
