Donald H. Robare

June 2, 1920 — April 7, 2022

Peru
Donald H Robare (Don) Passed away on April 7, 2022 with his loving family by his side. He was blessed to have a very large family to share his 101+ years with.
Don was a Proud World War II Veteran, a Sergeant in Company B, 99th Signal Battalion, as a radio operator and mechanic with an honorable discharge on January 21st, 1946.
Donald was a hard worker and had several jobs through the years after serving time in the Air Corp. Some of these jobs, but not all of them, included working at "Pal Blade" in Plattsburgh. He told many stories of his time spent there. He worked at local apple orchards, splicing different varieties of apples together to make new verities, something he practiced on his own property for many years. He enjoyed working at the orchards and did just about everything you can imagine while being there. Donald worked at the Harkness Town garage for many years doing road construction, mechanics and anything else he was asked to do.
He also worked at the Texaco gas station in Peru, and also at Millers garage in Au Sable. Donald was not an idle man. He liked to work. He enjoyed fixing things and building things. He repaired hundreds of lawn mowers for people and as far as Don was concerned, anything could be fixed, and if he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed. Don also led a crew for JCEO, the Green Thumb Program, performing weatherization on many, many local homes. He truly enjoyed his work there and always spoke highly of all the people he worked for, and with.
Don took great pride in his property in Peru. He loved to get on his riding mower and transformed the woods and brush into a park like area. He stick built his own 2 car garage and workshop shed single handedly using barn boards that he collected from local falling down structures. He truly was a master at what he did. He enjoyed working with wood and the feeling of accomplishment at a job well done.
One of dad’s favorite pastimes in his later years was to go for long car rides up in the mountains and back roads which he knew like the back of his own hands. He would love to snack in the car or enjoy a car picnic lunch while overlooking Lake Champlain or the Falls at Au Sable Chasm. He would share his wealth of stories and facts about the past which were always a delight and an insight to us from days gone by. His memory was sharp!
Donald was predeceased by his father, Herbert Robare and his mother Frances Gordon. Donald was heartbroken when he was predeceased by his two beautiful wives, Evelyn (1966) and Florence (2005). He was also predeceased by his son in law, Francis (Frank) Garcia (1991) and son in law Marshall Brothers (2010), his stepson Frank A. Garcia (2012) and Two brothers, Albert and Ronald as well.

Dad was a fighter right to the end, stubborn, yet just as loving. We were so lucky to share his many years with him. He will be missed by all who loved, and had the pleasure of knowing him.
We would like to add a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Steven Heintz and his staff for the many years of compassion and care he provided to our dad. Dr. Heintz went above and beyond for dad, making house calls and phone calls when dad could no longer go to his office. Dad looked forward to his appointments with Dr. Heintz, whether it at his office, or at his home. He enjoyed talking with him and hearing Doctor Heintz compliment his many sweaters and driving caps. He made dad smile. We will be forever grateful.
Dad’s final arrangements are entrusted to Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court Street, Plattsburgh. At dad’s request, there will be no calling hours. He will be cremated and the family will celebrate his life privately. Burial of his ashes will be at a later date. Heaven has a new angel, we'll miss you dad and you will be forever in our hearts. We love you. Go in peace.
We'd like to add a special thank you To Hospice Care. You treated dad with dignity and were very kind and caring at a time when he, and we, needed it most.
