Rev. Michael George Sowan

The Rev. Michael George Sowan passed away Friday, November 19, 2021 at Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, NY. He experienced declining health over the past several years.
Father Sowan was born in Potsdam, NY on July 22, 1939 to George and Rose (Blanchard) Swan. He graduated from Potsdam High School and Hobart College. After teaching school for one year he entered Philadelphia Divinity School. On December 19k 1966 he was ordained an Episcopal Priest at Trinity Episcopal Church in Potsdam, NY.
Father Sowan served in official pastoral capacity at Church of the Good Sheperd, Canajoharie, NY, St. Peter’s Cathedral, Helena, MT, St. Stephen’s Church, Billings, MT, and St. Paul’s Church Kansas City, KS. His last parish was Church of St. Sacrement, Bolton Landing, NY.
Father Sowan is predeceased by his son, Peter Sowan, and his brother, Joseph Swan. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Abrahamson) Sowan of Lewis, NY, his son Geoffrey Sowan of Bremerton, WA. By three sisters, Etta Manfred of Asheville, NC., Sr. Elaine of All Saints Convent, Catonsville, MD, Janice Musselman of Silver Spring, MD, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
