Philip Nelson Goff

November 23, 1930 — July 15, 2020

LEWIS | Philip Nelson Goff, age 89, of Lewis passed away July 15, 2020. He was born Nov. 23, 1930, the son of Henry and Thelma (Curran) Goff.

Phil graduated from Elizabethtown/Lewis Central School with honors. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal paratrooper from 1951 to 1953.

He started his career working for the local telephone company, from which he retired after many years of service. There at the phone company, he met his future wife, Carolyn Bosworth. They were married on April 10, 1955, and started their life together, celebrating 65 happy years.

After his retirement, he had many endeavors, such as driving an 18 wheeler with his son “Hoot” and his wife, but he especially enjoyed running his family-owned sawmill business, “Goff Mountain Wood,” which his whole family has worked together building. He also loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with the “Crazy Eights.”

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Beldon “Bub” and Henry “June”; his eldest son, Philip “Hoot”; and daughter-in-law Tammy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; children Hugh “Will” (Laurie), Nancy Siarkowski and Henry “George”; grandchildren Robert, Amanda, Benjamin (Kendra), Briana, and Megan; great-grandchildren Ava, Aria and Huck.

Donations can be made in Phil's memory to Essex County Veteran’s Cemetary, P.O. Box 217, Elizabethtown, New York 12932; Elizabethtown/Lewis Emergency Squad; or The American Cancer Society.

Services will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family. Everyone who remembers Phil is asked to celebrate his life in their own special way.
