Philip Leonard Pulsifer

October 7, 1930 — February 4, 2021

Philip Leonard Pulsifer, 90, of Lewis, New York and most recently Champlain Valley Assisted Living in Willsboro, New York, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021.

Phil grew up and lived his entire life in Lewis, New York. At age 16, he quit school to help care for his family. At that age, Phil became a trapper with the help and guidance of his favorite uncle, Francis Denton. He then went on to become a certified log grader, working for Boulder Saw Mill and at the point Mr. Boulder needed a logging crew, Phil started his own logging crew, eventually employing over 60 people over the span of his logging career. In 1970, along with his wife, Kathryn and son James, he started Philip Pulsifer & Son Ski Doo, which they operated along with their logging business. Phil and his son, James were partners in logging for 46 years. Phil was known as a true conservationist in the way he took care of his land. Foresters shared Phil's logging and forestry expertise as a model with loggers from as far away as France, Russia, the Netherlands and South America. He was very proud of the manner in which he managed his property. Phil was an avid hunter of white tail and black bear, a hobby he shared with his wife, Kathryn, his son, Jim and family and friends. He was a friend to all and generous with his community. He was a life-long member of the Mt. Fay Fish and Game Club and served as President for over 40 years. He served as a volunteer fireman with the Lewis Fire Department for over 50 years and was also a support of the Lewis Congregational Church.

Survivors include his son, James (Deborah) Pulsifer, granddaughter Kendra (Marcus) Griep and great grandson Sebastian, grandson Colby (Aubrey) Pulsifer and great grandson Reed, brother Frank (Mildred) Pulsifer, niece Karen Brown Sweatt, sister-in-law Jean Coolidge of Keene, NY, sister-in-law Mary Coolidge of Wilmington, NY, brother and sister-in-law Lawrence (Gail) Coolidge of Arizona, and brother and sister-in-law Ronnie and Patricia Coolidge of Arizona, along with special friends Glenn, Curt, Vesta, Jim and Cindy.
