Samuel Alger

Mr. Samuel E. “Sam” Alger, 81, of Sailly Avenue, Plattsburgh, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born September 19, 1930 in Gardner, Massachusetts, the son of Edmund and Hazel (Benham) Alger.
Sam proudly served in the Navy for 34 years and was thinking of making it his career. When not in uniform, he was a tool and die maker and had his own business on Rt. 22 South for several years. He was a 50+ year active member of the Quinebaug Masonic Lodge in Massachusetts and past member of the VFW and American Legion in Massachusetts. He enjoyed watching his hero, John “The Duke” Wayne and playing cribbage with “the boys” at the mall. Before he became ill, he enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours in his shop “creating”.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda (Brunelle) Alger and three children: Maureen (Chuck) Puchalski , Timothy Alger, Bridget (Eric) Vanier, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 nieces. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Paul Snyder, nephew Jon Snyder, and grandson Timothy Alger.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the H. K. Freedman Renal Center in Plattsburgh or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Heald Funeral Home. 48 Court Street, Plattsburgh.
