Thomas E. Carrick

PLATTSBURGH — Thomas E. Carrick, 82, of Lake Forest Drive, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his home.
He was born July 16, 1932 in Baltimore, Md., the son of Ralph R. Carrick Sr. and his wife Alice Estelle Munroe Carrick.
After serving in pastoral ministry for several churches in southern New York, Tom taught English for twenty-eight years in Cornwall Central High School and then served as administrator of the Olmsted Camp and Retreat Center in Cornwall-on-Hudson. In the seventeen years following he lived in Essex and was a member of the Essex Community U.M.C. In 2011 he moved to Lake Forest Retirement Community and became a member of Plattsburgh First Presbyterian Church.
In preparing his own obituary, Tom wrote, "He is survived by his ever-attentive wife and best friend, Beatrice (Mackey) Carrick, who was always lovingly by his side since their marriage on Jan. 30, 1960. He is also survived by three children, Alan Carrick of Louisville, Ky., The Rev. John Carrick and his wife Sandra of Bonn, Germany, and Cheryl Carrick Krueger and her husband Dr. Rob Krueger of Spokane, Wash. He also enjoyed six grandchildren, Ian, Bailey and Sydney Carrick and Kathryn, Dylan, and Helen Krueger. He is predeceased by one sister and two brothers."
Tom was a man of continual mirth and abiding faith. He appreciated beauty in literature, music and all its aesthetic forms and enriched the lives of his family and students with his joy in these things.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Essex Community Church. The Rev. John Hunn will conduct the service.
